10 ways to make every run awesome

Running can be really boring right? You run down the same road, at the same time to the same music. Here are 10 tips I use to not only make every run better and more fun; but to ensure that every run is awesome!

1. Get off the road

Get off the road. Running on the road can be boring and mundane. The grey pavement, the roaring cars. Start exploring, challenge yourself to discover the great outdoors through nature. When was the last time you visited your local park?

2. Ditch the tech

Forget about the mile count, constantly checking for how far you’ve run can be unproductive try ditch your sports band or tracker you’ll be surprised how liberating and freeing it’ll make you feel.

3. Set your intention

What are you running for? Is it to get fit, are you training for an event or are you just trying to get out the house? Visualise your goal before you leave your house, actually see yourself 10 pounds lighter, how great does that feel? Keep that image in your mind when you run, so when you’re tempted to quit keep going.

As coach Kozak from Hasfit says “when your legs get too tired, run with your heart.”

4. Rise early

Take advantage of the road being empty, as the days get lighter, watch the sunrise when you run. You’ll feel refreshed, energized and ready to take on the day.

5. Gear down

Your beautiful as you are. Don’t worry about brands and getting the latest looks. Put on your comfy running gear, the greater you feel about yourself the greater you’ll feel when running.

6. Tune in

Create an uplifting playlist, music that’ll get you motivated and have you booming down the streets. Or change it up and listen to a podcast or audiobook – who doesn’t love enriching their body and mind.

Or even better leave the music at home and take your run as an opportunity to tune in to your local surroundings.

7. Find your tribe

Running alone can be a great opportunity to review your thoughts and clear your mind. Running in a with others can be awesome. Whether it’s a family or friend or you find a local running club to be a part of, go for a chatty run or add a bit of competition – see who can run fastest.

8. Listen to your body

Sometimes you find you can run for a long time sometimes you can’t. Listen to your body if you need to jog, jog. If you need to walk, walk. If you need to stop, stop. Don’t feel guilty, you’re awesome don’t let one run knock your confidence or set you back.

9. Breathe

Take a deep energy filling breath in through the nose hold and out through the mouth take a moment to consider how grateful you are to have energy and fitness to go on your run and off you go.

10. Finally, don’t forget to smile

Smiling whilst running is an awesome mood booster and helps our bodies release cortisol and endorphins that provide many health benefits. Such as: reduced blood pressure, increased endurance, reduced pain, reduced stress and strengthened immune system. source

  1. This is very timely for me; I’ve been trying to go running for the last three days, and every day I’ve decided to do it tomorrow. I keep imagining how horrible I’ll feel while trying to run. But I’ve been working on mindfulness, so maybe I can approach it from that angle. Thank you for this! Great blog!

    1. Thanks for the comment Lily. Tip 3 is ideal for you, I used to have the same problem as well. My reason for getting back into regular running was having a goal of a half marathon and raising money a charity helping people fight against modern slavery, knowing I had people sponsoring me and I was raising money for a great cause was enough of a motivation. Find you why and that should stop you putting off your run off for tomorrow. All the best x
